I feel like a train wreck this morning. My boyfriend didn't sleep well last night and I thought that I had, but I guess I didn't. I may have to take a nap on the couch in the women's bathroom again today. Sigh. I don't know how I will get through this day.

I am still waiting to hear from Woods Hole. I emailed and called them yesterday. I am really unhappy that I don't know what is going on.

I need a pick me up today.

I am going to focus on the fact that my bf and I are going to Cancun this december. If that doesn't cheer me up nothing will. And I will try not to dwell on how much I am not looking forward to going swimsuit shopping.

I just got an email telling me that I got into the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. This is so exciting!!!

Ok here are some FAQ's and their answers:

1) What is the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI)?

- WHOI is an institute in Woods Hole on the Cape Cod. They do all kinds of research in marine applications of earth sciences, including geophysics, which is what I will be doing doing.

2) OMG the Cape? You mean you are moving?

- No. MIT has a program that works with Woods Hole where students get a degree from both institutions. I will be going there 2 or more times a week but commuting from Boston. At least it will be that way for the first year or so.

3) So what about your Masters?

- What about it? I probably will try to finish it anyway but if my advisor continues to piss me off I might just chuck it in the waste bin.

4) So what would you be doing there?

- My PhD in Marine Geophysics. This means studying tectonics using marine applications of geophysical techniques.

5) Wow does that mean you get to go on boats?

Yes. Yes it does.

Ok send me any and all questions you may still have and I will write a new faq. Thanks for all the encouragement, friends.

What does a marine geophysicist do?

- A marine geophysicist applies geophysics in marine settings... Ok I won't cop out quite that much. Geophysicists try to determine things about the earth using its physical properties. Specifically I will probably be working on some tectonics and perhaps environmental applications and will most likely be looking at the strength of the earth's electromagnetic field at various places to determine things about the subsurface and the way that plates are moving.

When do I start?

- February (Spring Term)
