So I am a rabid bibliophile. I read like crazy. I really enjoy reading and enjoy books. I am reading one right now called Anubis Gates which is like a time travel historical fiction novel. Its wonderful. If you are interested in this kind of stuff go for it. In the same vain check out the Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. Its awesome. Also about time travel.
How many Terry Goodkind fans are reading this? I was kinda disappointed with the last one but I love his world. I think it would be awesome to play a tabletop game in that world. I would like to play a confessor.
So I will probably talk about books I have read from time to time.
One book I read recently is called Memoirs of a Geisha. Its really well written. Everyone I know who has read it loves it. However, it is important to keep in mind that the geisha who the book was supposedly based on denounces it as not a fair account. She has written her own biography which I now intend to read. Anyway the point is if you want an interesting book read it. Bear in mind however that the author may be misrepresenting the truth.

I've seen a lot of material that essentially denounces them as high priced prostitutes and was pleased to see the novel didn't follow in that vein and actually treated the whole issue with an ounce of common sense. I'm of the same opinion that anything well written on courtesans of venice and other areas is unusual in the extreme.
Even areas of the historical world that didn't have organized social strata of courtesans and Geisha tended to have wealthy lords and nobles who kept one or several well paid mistresses on retainer. Historically, there tended to be this cast of women that was valued not just for sensual pleasure, but for their conversational ability, for their intelligance, and for their wit. Prized attributes in a mistress but apparantly not favorable ones in a wife. Go fig.
On a related note: "Slammerkin" is turning out to be a very interesting novel about a low priced prostitute. good read, I'm in the middle right now.
Not into Terry Goodkind much or I'd ramble some on that too ;)
