Inspired by the film last night I wrote a garou creation story...

There have not always been three. In the beginning before there was darkness, before there was light there was one. It came into being by itself and called itself Creation. Creation made the darkness and the light, creation made the day and the night. Creation made the earth and sky and all the stars to decorate its surroundings. Creation made itself friends, every creature on the earth. Each thing that crawls, flies, swims or just is, creation made it.

Creation made herself a name. She called herself the Wyld, and made herself the Mother of all that she had created. But in time she saw that there was too much. It was unruly and there were too many. The Mother could not take care of all that she had made. She could not decide where and how they should live or when they should die. Her spirit was not made for such things and so she created two others like herself to complete these tasks.

She created a spirit that she called the Wyrm, she called it He so that it would be separate from her. And as she was the one who created all things, she made him to be the one to destroy them all in their time. The Wyrm helped her to assure that there were never too many, and that those she had created had rest when they were weary.

But still there was confusion. The beings she created did not know how or where they should live. They had no one to teach them, for the Mother had not the spirit to do these things, nor did the Wyrm. So the Mother created a spirit she called the Weaver. She made it unlike herself or the Wyrm and called it It. The Weaver then organized the world. It told the creatures how and where to live. It sorted them and connected them so that when it was finished the world had a cycle. It brought the Mother and the Wyrm into the cycle as well, so that the things the Mother created lived and died in good time, and maintained a peace among them.

Sometimes the Mother made too many, and the Wyrm would come and destroy her creations, every last one. It did not bother the Mother for she could and did create more, and so the world continued as each new creation had a place and a time to live and die, and lived in a kind of peace with all others.

But the Mother began to despair for she had never been able to create anything that was like herself. She felt that she should be able to create creatures that could create new things and be mother to her creations. She found two that she found worthy, the wolf, and the man. She put into both a bit of her spirit, and the two became new things. The wolf received the gift of mothering. The wolf began to think of its place among the other creatures as one of a caretaker. When the Weaver saw this it delighted and decided to give the wolf a piece of itself. It gave the wolf cunning and cleverness. The wolf began to understand the pattern of the Weaver and from then on began to make sure that it was preserved. The wolf knew how many could live in a space and when there were too many. The Wyrm saw this and he was jealous. The Wyrm decided to give the wolf some of himself as well. The Wyrm gave the power to destroy to the wolf. The wolf was sometimes overwhelmed by this power when ill and caused terrible destruction. But the kindness given to it by the Mother and the cunning given to it by the Weaver kept the destruction in check, and was able to decide when to use it. It became a predator. The wolf was careful not to hunt the young and to only hunt where there were too many. The wolf helped preserve the cycle.

The Mother had also given man a piece of her spirit, it received the spirit of creation. The man had the desire to make new things but did not know how to go about it. The Weaver saw this and gave also to the man a piece of itself. It gave to the man cunning and and cleverness. The man began to understand what kinds of things were needed and started to create them. The Wyrm became jealous and decided to put a little of himself in man as well. He gave man the power to destroy. The man was sometimes overwhelmed by this power when ill and caused terrible destruction. But the desire to create given to it by the Mother and the cunning given to it by the Weaver kept the destruction in check, and was able to decide when to use it. It became a predator and a farmer. It grew things and decided when they where ready to be harvested. It hunted beasts and decided when they should die. The man helped preserve the cycle.

There was a time when a man was left in the woods. This man was an infant and could not care for itself. The mothering instinct in the wolf drew it to the man and it decided to care for it. The wolf and his brothers raised the man among them. They became a family and the man knew not the ways of his kind but only those of the wolf. The man despaired as it grew for it wished to be like the wolf. The Mother saw this and was filled with pain. These two creatures that she loved so much had such a deep longing to be truly a family. So she gave the man the ability to become a wolf and it was happy as both man and wolf for the rest of it days. Its children had also the ability to change to be both man and wolf and soon a new type of being was created.

This happened all over the world when infants of the man where abandoned and soon there were families of man/wolves all over the world.

There was a time when a cub was left in the woods. Its pack had died and it could not care for itself. The curiosity of the man drew it to the wolf and it decided to care for it. The man raised the wolf and they became a family, the wolf knew not the ways of his own kind but only those of the man. The wolf despaired as it grew for it watned to be like the man. The Mother saw this and was filled with pain. These two creatures that she loved so much had a deep longing to be truly a family. So she gave the wolf the ability to becaome a man and it was happy as both wolf and man for the rest of its days. Its children also had the ability to change to be both wolf and man and soon a new type of being was created.

This happened all over the world when the infants of the wolf where abandoned and soon there were families of wolf/men all over the world.

The Weaver saw these creations that were so alike and brought them together. It made it so that man/wolves and wolf/men could come together and bear young. Soon the earth had many of these creatures that served as creators and nurturers, who had cunning and cleverness, and destroyed to keep the balance.

The new beings were too powerful for the world that the Mother had created. They lived longer than most creatures and were more fierce. The Wyrm saw that there were too many and decided to destroy them. At first he did nothing but make it more difficult for the new creatures to bear young of their kind. Many of the young were simply wolves or men with no ability to change. This did not stop the spread of the changers so he made it that those who had been born of two parents of the same kind could not breed and in so doing attempted to arrest their creation. This did not stop the spread of the changers enough and there were still too many. The Wyrm then made a grave mistake. He decided to give more of his destructive nature to some of the changers so that they would destroy their own kind. These changers did not have enough cunning or cleverness, nor enough mothering or desire to create and so were bent on only destroying. Since they were so powerful they began to destroy too many and also turned to destroy many of the creatures of the world who were still in balance.

Alarmed by the death of their kind and the destruction of the world the changers began to fight against these dark ones who had more of the Wyrm inside them than the Mother and the Weaver, They fight to this day to restore the balance, and their battles are tales for another day.

Please feel free to critique it if you would like.

After years of indoctrination into the White Wolf CANON *snickers at GR*, it was damn refreshing to see a different take on it all. Definitely something that I'd expect to see in the beginning of a Tribebook - it's just that damn good.

Might want to consider submitting it to the Requiem :D

i read this and i see in my mind's eye...

a cave lit by a fire. the walls are painted with primitive images of men and beasts. at the center an old wolf priestess teaching cubs that are sitting at her feet. her words spark wonders in the youngsters eyes...

excellent telling of the tale, btw :)
